Day 2

KNOW

**For more resources to train yourself as a parent, challenge your older children (upper elementary through teens), or to simply go deeper, check out the Bonus>Extra Resources Tab in the app**.
  • Begin your family devo time with a prayer asking God to focus everyone’s attention on Him together.  Feel free to have one of your kids pray!
  • Say this week’s Gospel statement out loud together (in the picture above!)…feel free to have your family say it along with you, or repeat short phrases. Our goal is to memorize this phrase by the end of the week!
  • BIBLE TIME: Read Hebrews 9 out loud together or hit play on your Bible app and listen to this chapter together (focus especially on the verses that talk about blood being used to purify the items of the tabernacle/temple, like verse 22).
    • Challenge your children who are old enough to read to follow along in their own physical Bibles.
    • Remember: all of the details about the tabernacle/temple, the priests, and the sacrifices point to God’s desire to be WITH man.  Unfortunately in the OT, the people’s sins kept them separated from being directly in God’s Presence.  Even the blood sacrifices of sheep and goats only did just enough to keep the presence of God separate from all the people by a couple of rooms in the tabernacle/temple.  What Jesus (God the Son)  did on the cross serves to be the perfect blood sacrifice to forgive us our sins and allow us to enter into the very presence of God to be with Him forever.
    • Read Matthew 27:50-51 to find out what literally happened to the curtain in the temple that separated God’s holy Presence from the rest of the peopl!
    • Theological Term of the Day: ATONEMENT — means to make a wrong right

GROW

  • Family Discussion
    • Why is Jesus’ sacrifice for us on the cross better than the sacrificial deaths of sheep & goats in the OT?
      • See Hebrews 9:12 & 26 to find the answer!
      • Jesus’ sacrifice is PERFECT because He is God in the flesh (John 1:1 & 14).

GO

  • Take turns praying as a family.  While it may seem kinda gross to think about blood literally having to be shed for our sins, this should show us just how SERIOUS our sins are before God! Romans 6:23a tells us what our sins deserve.  Thank God for His great plan and love toward us in Jesus as His blood was shed for YOUR sin to ATONE (make our wrongs right) for your life.
  • THIS WEEK‘S CHALLENGE: Have each family member share out loud about one person who needs to hear that God is holy and created us to be with Him, our sins separate us from Him,  no good work takes away the stain of sin, but that Jesus paid the price for our sin by dying and rising again!  Take time to pray for each person by name.
  • Have one family member or all re-state today’s Gospel statement: Paying the price for sin, Jesus died & rose again!
  • BONUS OPTION TO CLOSE: Listen & sing along with “Infinite Love of Christ” by Kingdom Kid ft. Shane & Shane, “Communion” or “Jesus Paid It All” by our praise team:
