Day 2
KNOW
**For more resources to train yourself as a parent, challenge your older children (upper elementary through teens), or to simply go deeper, check out the Bonus>Extra Resources Tab in the app**.
- Begin your family devo time with a prayer asking God to focus everyone’s attention on Him together. Feel free to have one of your kids pray!
- Say this week’s Gospel statement out loud together (in the picture above!)…feel free to have your family say it along with you, or repeat short phrases. Our goal is to memorize this phrase by the end of the week!
- BIBLE TIME: Read Isaiah 64:4-7 out loud together.
- Challenge your children who are old enough to read to follow along in their own physical Bibles.
GROW
- Family Discussion: What does Isaiah 64:4-7 teach us? Share out loud together*.
- *Context: this passage comes from the prophet Isaiah who wrote to the people of Judah as they were facing judgment for their years of disobedience to God and His Word. In chapter 64, Isaiah wrote this prayer to declare who God is, to acknowledge the hopeless state that his people were in because of their sin, and to seek God for His mercy and grace to restore them to Him!*
- God works for those who wait for Him.
- God “meets” or falls upon (in a good way!) those who joyfully work righteousness.
- God was angry toward His people in their sin.
- The sinful people did righteous things in a worthless way…they were like a nasty, dirty cloth (Because their good works were done from hearts that didn’t honor God).
- Family Discussion: Based upon these verses, what stands to you about God?
- Based upon these verses, what stands out to you about sinful people (and based on yesterday’s devo, that‘s ALL of us when we don’t know God!)?
GO
- Take turns praying as a family. Tell God of your desire to wait for Him and work righteousness because of your desire to honor Him! Exclaim the reality that you know you can’t do good things that honor Him WITHOUT Him!!!
- THIS WEEK‘S CHALLENGE: Have each family member share out loud about one person who needs to hear that God is holy and created us to be with Him, our sins separate us from Him, and no good work takes away the stain of sin. Take time to pray for each person by name.
- Have one family member or all re-state today’s Gospel statement: Sins can’t be removed by good deeds.
- BONUS OPTION TO CLOSE: Listen & sing along with either “I Don’t Have Much” by the Worship Initiative or ”Rock of Ages” by our praise team:
